Residents of Carrigans have expressed their disappointment after a historic village feature was vandalised.
The Pump Street Memorial, which is maintained by the Carrigans Tidy Towns Committee, was damaged in what appears to have been a deliberate act of vandalism on Friday night.
According to the committee, an extremely heavy planter box was pushed down against the historic pump, breaking the cast iron arm and the planter box itself.
The cost of repairing the damage is estimated to be €1,000, which was donated by locals through sponsor lines.
“We can’t let hard work and hard-earned donations be trampled on like this,” the committee said.
The committee is now calling on anyone with information about the incident to come forward and report it to the Garda Síochána in Donegal. Robbie, a representative of the Garda station, is available to speak with anyone who has information in confidence.
