A late goal by Patrick McBrearty, who scored 1-07 in total, gave Kilcar an important but very hard earned win over St. Michaels at the Bridge.
A strong cross breeze made things difficult for both teams but didn’t prevent them producing a lively well contested championship clash at the Bridge in Dunfanaghy.

St.Michaels had the better of the opening half and led by 0-07 to 0-5 at half-time , all of Kilcar’s scores coming from the boot of Patrick McBrearty, three from frees.
Eoghan Kelly kicked two frees and Mark Anthony McGinley a 45 while Micheal Cannon with two, Martin McElhinney and Carlos O Reilly from play had the home team those two points ahead.
Mark Anthony McGinley opened the second-half with another 45 to push the lead to three points but that only lasted over a minute as Kilcar hit the game’s first goal.
Ciaran McGinley burst through from midfield beating several defenders before passing to Ryan McShane who blasted low to the net and the teams were level 0-08 to 1-05.
Another good Kilcar move set up Patrick McBrearty who tapped over his and Kilcar’s sixth point and the lead. Mark Anthony McGinley converted his third 45 , Matthew McClean and Packie O Neill exchanged points and then Carlos O Reilly punched St. Micheals ahead again, 0-11 to 1-07.
Back came Kilcar again , McBrearty pointed a free and then full-back Brian O Donnell came forward to punch Kilcar ahead again and then Matthew McClean and Ryan Mc Hugh combined to set up Patrick McBrearty to fist the ball to the net and a four point lead for the visitors.
And that’s how it finished , a hard earned win for Kilcar and a second narrow defeat for St.Michael’s , who have it all to do to finish in the top twelve in the next two weeks .
