Two Donegal swimmers are jetting off to Italy tomorrow to represent Ireland in the SUDS European Championships.
Anna Hennessy from Letterkenny and Eoin Rooney from Ballyshannon are part of the Team Ireland squad competing in the Sport Union for Athletes with Down Syndrome competition in Padova.
Anna will be competing in the Butterfly, Backstroke, Freestyle, Mixed Freestyle Relay, and Mixed Medley events.
Eoin will be racing in the Butterfly, Front Crawl and Back Crawl.
Heats commence on Tuesday.
Speaking to Donegal Daily ahead of the competition, Anna said: “It’s not just for winning, it’s about having a great day with my friends in Team Ireland. I want to make my family, my friends and my cousins proud.”
Both Anna and Eoin have been coached by Eoin’s mother, Sinead Donagher at the Finn Valley Centre in preparation for the championships. Anna is a member of Swilly Seals and is also coached by her father Kevin during the holidays.
Anna and Eoin are proudly sponsored by Kelly’s Diner Letterkenny.
The athletes have also received well-wishes from their teachers and classmates in local training services.
