An impressive new mural was officially unveiled in Convoy today in a nod to the village’s railway past.
The mural was painted onto the gable wall of Moore’s Post Office on the Main Street by local artist Marty Mc Daid.
Marty created a bright and beautiful depiction of the old railway line showcasing the railway station in Convoy.
The project was spearheaded by the Convoy Community Environmental Committee with funding from the Tourism Minor Works grant from Donegal County Council.
This morning’s unveiling was a chance for locals to share memories of journeys in the days gone by.
Trains once came from Letterkenny via Glenmaquin, from Strabane via Ballindrait and Raphoe as well as down from Stranorlar.
Traces of the railways still exist today in the form of bridges, station houses and manned crossings which have been turned into homes.
