It’s been a blistering weekend across Donegal so far and the forecast is for some more warm weather in the coming days.

Temperatures will stay around 20 degrees in Donegal but could soar as high as 25C this week in parts of the country.

Apart from a few scattered or thundery showers, the forecast is for lots of dry and warm weather right up until Friday.

While most schoolchildren have returned to classes, many flocked to the beaches yesterday including Bunbeg Beach pictured above and are planning another trip today.

For others it was the chance to give the grass another cut or spark up the BBQ.

The following is the Met Eireann forecast for the week ahead.

TODAY – Sunday 3rd September

Today will be dry with any remaining fog slowly lifting and warm spells of hazy sunshine developing. However, low cloud and fog may linger near some coasts. Highs of 18 to 24 degrees, warmest in the south midlands. Light to moderate southwest winds with very high tides as a result of the recent supermoon also.

TONIGHT

Largely clear weather at first tonight. Mist and fog will develop again tonight in many areas, with some dense pockets of fog likely in the west or midlands. Very light winds or near calm. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees.

TOMORROW – Monday 4th September
A misty start tomorrow with pockets of fog slowly clearing. Tomorrow will be another warm, dry and mostly sunny day, aside from some lingering coastal fog. Light easterly winds, though somewhat breezier along the south coast. Highest temperatures of 21 to 26 degrees, warmest again in the south midlands.

National Outlook
OVERVIEW: Continuing warm with an increased chance of heavy or thundery showers from midweek, although there is uncertainty in the details.

MONDAY NIGHT: A mild night, especially in the south where temperatures will remain in the mid to high teens overnight. Mostly clear and dry, with some mist or fog over the northern half of the country. Light east to northeast winds, moderate along the south coast.

TUESDAY: Dry with a mix of cloud and sunny spells for most, but there will be showers in the southwest that could turn heavy or thundery later. Warm with highs of 21 to 26 degrees, warmest away from the east coast with light to moderate easterly breezes.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Another mild night with overnight temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees. Long dry and clear spells with well scattered showers, some may be heavy in the southwest. Light southeast breezes.

WEDNESDAY: A cloudier day with scattered showers, most likely affecting the western half of the country with mainly dry weather in the east. Some showers may be heavy. There will be some hazy sunshine at times. Warm and humid, with highs generally between 21 and 25 degrees. Moderate southerly winds. Wednesday night will be very mild and humid, with temperatures not falling below 16 or 17 degrees in many parts.

THURSDAY: Scattered heavy or thundery showers mixed with some bright or sunny intervals. A humid day with highs of 20 to 25 degrees, currently looking to be warmest in the east, in light to moderate southerly winds.

FURTHER OUTLOOK: Current indications are showing that Friday will be another warm and humid day, with some showers.
