Sinn Féin’s Spokesperson on Communications and Transport held a series of ‘constructive’ meetings in Lifford yesterday.
Deputy Martin Kenny (main pic), also the party’s MEP for Midlands–North-West, was joined by Chris MacManus MEP and Donegal TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn.
They met with officials from the National Roads Design Office (NRDO) to discuss and receive an update on the TEN T project. The Donegal roads to be upgraded as part of the project are: Section 1 (N15/N13 Ballybofey/Stranorlar Urban Region); Section 2 (N56/N13 Letterkenny to Manorcunningham) and Section 3 (N14 Manorcunningham to Lifford/Strabane/A5 Link).
The Sinn Féín representatives also met with several rail campaign groups such as West Ulster Rail Initiative (WURI) and West on Track to hear their views on the recently published All-Island Strategic Rail Review.
“It was great to be in the Donegal Constituency to receive an update on some of the key infrastructure projects that are in the works,” Deputy Kenny said.
“The TEN T project now appears to be on track, as it is in phase 3, and a business case has been submitted. It was also good to speak with those who have tirelessly campaigned over many years to bring rail to Donegal.”
He stressed that he wanted to speak to them in person about the party’s plans to ‘unlock the North West’ through improvement to infrastructure.
“I also thought it was imperative to hear their views on the recently published All-Island Strategic Rail Review,” he added.
“The bringing of better infrastructure and transport links to Donegal and the North West is absolutely essential and Sinn Féin will be doing all it can to ensure they are brought to fruition as soon as possible.”
