Well-known Donegal music venue McGrorys of Culdaff is amongst four locations opening their doors for a new RTE show, Seisiun.
In the series, musician Muireann Nic Amlaoibh will showcase the best and brightest of bands, musicians and singers who have proud associations with these much cherished family run venues.
The Saw Doctors, Mick Flannery, Stockton’s Wing, Lisa Canny and The 4 of Us join us to celebrate the rich musical heritage of Campbell’s Tavern in Galway, The Cobblestone in Dublin, Connollys of Leap in West Cork and McGrory’s of Culdaff, Donegal.
Trailblazing new talent such as Clare Sands, Inni-K, Strung, Matthew Berrill, The Friel Sisters and Cormac McCarthy are just some of the names who cut their musical teeth performing live in these special spaces and they join in this unique celebration.
At the heart of each venue are the driving forces who have kept the stage doors open in good times and in bad.
McGrory’s will be the last to feature in the four part series and the show airs on September 22nd on RTE 1.
A music hub welcoming music lovers for over 90 years, we meet the owner John Reynolds.
The 4 of Us make the pilgrimage to perform a stunning new song live for the first time and reminisce about the magical nights they had in the McGrory’s.
With performances from some of Donegal’s most talented traditional musicians such as The High Seas, Ciarán Tourish and Dermot Byrne, and the inimitable Friel Sisters. Last but not least, Lisa Canny rocks the stage with her band as she combines pop and traditional influences to create her unique new sound.
John Reynolds of McGrory’s said “McGrory’s is as north as you can go on this island with a purpose built stage for live music and despite our remote location we’ve tried to serve as a hub for a wider region here in Donegal and on into Derry.
“We’ve been through the 80s, the Troubles and most recently Covid but as long as we can keep class acts and performers on stage we’ll keep the doors open for music and song.”
