After last weekend’s fantastic Knockalla Hillclimb, Donegal Motorclub has launched its own You Tube Channel.
The first video being a breath taking Drone footage of Donegal’s iconic Knockalla in all its glory drowned in sunshine during this year Hillclimb event.
Speaking on the release Donegal Motor Club PRO, Bernard Gallagher, explained the thinking behind the youtube channel.
“Donegal Motor Club’s first event was the Knockalla Hillclimb where on the day there was a reported 10,000 spectators.
“We found it fitting that 51 years on that the event still draws a massive interest & crowd. While we didnt have 10,000 speactors estimates from this year suggest that we had just under 5,000 people over the 2 days and now with the introduction of our new Youtube Channel we hope to bring the Knockalla Hillclimb to a worldwide audience.
“With Camper vans arriving as far away as Co. Clare on the Thursday and staying in the area to Monday. The Knockalla Hillclimb is really spectator friendly with a vast array of cars from Red Bull Single Seaters, Ford Escorts, BMW M3s to some classics there is something for everyone to see.
“With the glorious sunshine during this years event we saw crowds of people flock to the Knockalla beach but the buzz of the crowds & noise of the racing cars attracted a much wider audience than we usually see at Motor Club events with a bus running up & down the hill all weekend. We had a family on Holidays from Asia that arrived not knowing the Hillclimb was on & were that happy with the event they came back again on Sunday.
“There is a real social element to the Hillclimb event with everyone in place at the one location for the weekend. Back in the early years there was a bar from Logues of Cranford, live commentary & marquees which must have been a great weekend. This is something that the organisers feel that could happen again.
“This year thanks to Chris Fair we brought back live commentary to the Paddock Area which got great praise all weeknd. As Knockalla is located along the Wild Atlantic Way and adjacent to the Mulroy Drive there is great potential here to create a festival weekend based around the Hillclimb something that was discussed a few times among the 50+ camper vans that arrived over the weekend.
“This video showcases the Knockalla Hillclimb & Donegal worldwide.”
