The seaside village of Culdaff has gone back in time as filming takes place for a major new release.
The cast and crew of the major new Irish-Canadian drama ‘Cry from the Sea’ have been busy filming scenes in the Inishowen village’s main street.
Parts of Culdfaff have been transformed with a 1930s feel this week. Horse-drawn carriages and old motors are the modes of transport for a little while. McGuinness’ bar plays host to some exciting indoor scenes, while the exterior of the traditional Irish bar already looked the part!

The film’s main actors have been spotted in old-fashioned attire, with Aidan Quinn (A Shine of Rainbows), wearing a clergyman’s garb, and David Pearse (The Banshees of Inisherin) also pictured on set.
“It’s great for the village to be seen in the beautiful light that it deserves. Hopefully, it will attract many more visitors in the years to come,” said Johnny McGuinness, manager of McGuinness’ Bar and Shop and local county councillor.
“It’s a bit of excitement at the end of the summer to see different scenes being set up. The whole street is covered in gravel and turf mould. There are horses and donkeys around. People have to be patient with the road being closed sporadically but all in all, it’s a fantastic for the area.”
Across the road, the Culdaff Arms has also been soaking up the action. Film director Vic Sarin (A Shine Of Rainbows) and some of the stars have popped in to visit.
“It’s mighty,” said Brian Bonnar. “This the second film to be made here in Culdaff and that’s unique for a small village.”
The UK romantic comedy ‘Dead Long Enough’ was also shot in Culdaff back in 2005.

‘Cry From the Sea’ is a romantic drama starring Quinn, Pearse, Sarah Gadon (Alias Grace), Sarah Bolger (In America) and Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia!). The movie tells the story of a lighthouse keeper who is stuck in a cycle of grief and his encounters with three people who change the course of his life. The film is a co-production by Shinawil and Sepia Films, with the support of the Donegal Film Office.
Filming began in Malin Head, and thankfully the weather has been on the crew’s side so far.
