Mickey Harte to become new Derry GAA manager

Mickey Harte is to become the new Derry GAA manager.

The former Tyrone All-Ireland winning coach was manager of the Louth senior footballers.

But he handed in his notice earlier this evening.

Harte will succeed Ciarán Meenagh who had stepped in for Rory Gallagher after he was forced to leave his position over personal allegations.

Harte’s long-serving assistant, Gavin Devlin, is also believed to be departing the Wee County set-up for a similar role with the Ulster champions.

His resignation comes as a major shock and will see him going up against his home county for the first time in his career.
