A man having a cigarette outside Dublin Airport was stabbed seven times by a stranger in a random attack yesterday.
The victim was outside the departures hall when he was set upon by a man with a penknife.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident outside Terminal 1 at approximately 11.30am yesterday..
The victim, who is in his 50s, was stabbed a number of times in the neck and abdomen.
He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital where he was treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
A suspect was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and was last night detained at a north Dublin garda station.
The scene outside the departures hall of Terminal 1 was preserved to facilitate a technical examination.
A spokesperson for DAA, which manages and operates Dublin Airport, said: “Airport police at Dublin Airport responded to an incident outside Terminal 1 this morning. One person has been arrested by the gardaí. Flights at Dublin Airport are operating normally.”
