Successful Primary Schools Cross Country at Finn Valley AC

written by Staff Writer September 20, 2023
FacebookTweetLinkedInPrint

Main pic: U9 boys winners.

Around 700 children raced at the annual primary schools cross country at Finn Valley AC yesterday.

The rain clouds hung high over Stranorlar, but the rain held off until the close of action on a day

when the Gallaghers from Scoil Naisiunta An Choimin shone.

U13 girls winners.

The Gallagher twins, Molly and Katie, led the way for An Choimin in the under-13 girls race.

Molly Gallagher won the individual gold from Drumquinn NS’s Ciara McCosker with Dooish

schoolgirl Caoimhe McElhinney third – her bronze aiding Dooish to collect the large schools’

gold.

Katie Gallagher was the next An Choimin scorer in sixth and they bagged the small schools tam

gold medals.

U13 boys

Peter Gallagher picked up from where his siblings left off by winning the under-13 boys race and

spurring An Choimin to another team gold.

Gallagher took victory from Lurgybrack’s Eoghan Callaghan and St Eunan’s Raphoe pupil Jamie

Lafferty in a titanic battle with St Eunan’s leaving with the medium schools gold and Lurgybrack

earning the large schools’ gold.

U11 boys

There was an excellent gold for Muff NS’s Jake Hegarty in the under-11 boys race, staving off

the attention of Shay McHugh (Scoil Bhride, Convoy) and Oran Gallagher (Dromore).

U11 girls

In a superb under-11 girls race, Rhia Toner set the pace and was first past the post, the Scoil

Bhride woman winning an excellent race from Alison Mbuli (St Mary’s Stranorlar) and Katie

McDowell (Woodlands).

U9 girls

The under-9 races were won by Caitlin Gillespie of St Mary’s and Woodlands’ Flynn Mulligan.

Gaelscoil Adhamhnain of Letterkenny won the under-9 girls and under-13 girls large schools

team titles with Dooish toasting medium schools titles at under-11 girls and under-13 girls
