Clerical changes announced as Monsignor Dan Carr retires after 58 years

The Bishop of Raphoe, Alan McGuckian, has announced a range of clerical changes for the diocese.

Among the many changes will see the retirement after more than 50 years of service of Monsignor Dan Carr as parish priest of Saint Johnston.

A native of Fanad, he was ordained by Archbishop John Charles McQuaid in 1965 and has been parish priest in St Johnston since 1988.

Bishop McGuckian thanked Monsignor Carr for his service and wished him every blessing in his retirement.

Monsignor Carr will continue to live in the parish as Pastor Emeritus.

The following are the clerical changes planned for the Diocese which will mostly be implemented from the weekend of October14/15th.

From the weekend of October 15th, the St Johnston parish will be jointly administered by Fr Martin Cunningham and Fr Philip Kemmy, who have been appointed as Pastors in Solidum.

Fr Cunningham will be the Moderator and will look after the schedule and arrangements for funerals and weddings while Fr Kemmy will be in charge of administration, the Finance Committee and the Parish Pastoral Council as well as baptisms.

Fr Charlie Byrne, the parish priest of Meevagh, has been confirmed as the administrator of the Clonvadaddog parish while Fr Anthony Briody will be the new curate in Clonvadaddog. Fr Pat McGarvey, the parish priest, is on sabbatical.

Fr Vincent Finnegan OFM, who is on loan from the Franciscan Order, has been appointed as a curate for the Stranorlar parish.
