Film buffs will be gathering in great numbers this week to celebrate film and one of south Donegal’s greatest creatives, the late Marc Geagan.
Marc, a native of Bundoran, was organising the inaugural Donegal Bay Film Festival before his untimely death last month.
The shock and sadness of Marc’s sudden passing continues to be felt across the Bundoran region. He has been remembered as a gifted musician, an intellectual, a historian, a mentor and so much more.
With the encouragement of Marc’s family, it has been decided that the Donegal Bay Film Festival will proceed in his honour as part of the Donegal Bay & Bluestacks Festival.
The event takes place at Eclipse Cinemas in Bundoran over three nights – Tuesday 3rd, Wednesday 4th of October and Thursday 5th October, with screenings at 8pm each night.
Films by north west based filmmakers will be shown over the three nights with Q&As with the filmmakers themselves.
Tuesday 3rd October showcases female led film makers such as award winning ‘Wednesday’s Child’ by Caroline Harvey, ‘Northern Chirish’ by Diana Cheung and ‘Otherland’ by Alice Ward.
Wednesday 4th October will screen films by Northwest film makers such as the award winning Irish language short ‘Bean Feasa’ by Daniel Butler, ‘Daoine na Mara’ by Giles Carey, “Chaos and Quiet” by Fiachra O Longain and Séan Coyle and “I Know You” by Colm Herron.
Thursday 5th October- The festival’s closing film will be a documentary feature “Border Trail” by Darach MacDonald and John O’Neill.
All nights are free of charge and will follow with a Q&A with filmmakers.
Free Tickets are available on Eventbrite or check out Eclipse Cinemas website.
