National: More headaches for RTÉ as finance chief resigns

RTÉ has been hit with another bombshell after its Chief Financial Officer resigned.

In a statement, RTÉ said Richard Collins would work on a handover and that it is in the process of identifying a replacement CFO.

“Richard will assist in in any ongoing processes to the extent that this may be required,” RTÉ said.

“We wish to thank Richard for his hard work and contribution to RTÉ over the past three years and to wish him every success in the future,” according to the statement.

RTÉ Director General Kevin Bakhurst is meeting with staff today to update them on developments at the station.

The ‘town hall’ meeting is giving employees an opportunity to ask questions about management’s future plans.

RTÉ has been hit with a sharp fall in TV licence fee revenue following revelations in June over the under-declaration of Ryan Tubridy’s salary.

Last month, Mr Bakhurst announced a recruitment freeze and a pause in discretionary spending.

He and his management team are currently developing a strategic framework for the future of RTÉ which is due to be completed in the coming weeks.

Minister for Media Catherine Martin said yesterday that RTÉ is to receive €16m in additional funding for next year.
