Low audible signal at Letterkenny crossing to be reviewed

Donegal County Council is set to review the sound of the beep signal at one of Letterkenny’s busiest pedestrian crossings.

Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh raised the issue with the council this week, reporting that the audible signal at the lights between Mr Chippie at the Letterkenny Bus Station is “very low and difficult to hear”.

Cllr Kavanagh explained that the busy crossing at Mr. Chippie is used daily by people who are visually impaired and attend the rehabilitation facility on the Port Road.

Cllr Kavanagh said: “These people and indeed many visually impaired people depend on hearing the audio signal indicating that it is safe to cross, but they have difficulty doing so, this is a very busy crossing in an area with a huge amount of traffic and it is important that the lights are functioning properly for everyone using the crossing.”

The council agreed to have the traffic signal maintenance contractor check the lights this week.

Cllr Kavanagh added: “The council have also informed me that the timing of the lights will also be checked and amended if necessary, as part of the review. I’d like to thank the roads engineer for organising this.”
