A motorist was caught speeding close to Dunkineely National School this afternoon.

The driver was clocked travelling at 84 KPH in a 60 KPH Zone on approach to the school. A Fixed Charge Penalty Notice was issued by the Donegal Town Roads Policing Unit.

The school hit the headlines last month after it was claimed a speeding truck almost ‘cleaned out’ a group of children crossing the road.

Garda Cahalin from Donegal Town Roads Policing Unit assisting with traffic calming measures at Dunkineely National School today.

“Motorists, please ensure to slow down when approaching a school,” a garda spokesperson said.

“Abide by the rules of the road and expect the unexpected at all times. Respect the direction of any traffic lights that are in place. Please do not park illegally when doing school drop offs or pick ups. Follow school traffic management plans that may be in place. They have been put in place to ensure the safety of all attending and approaching the school. Leave a little extra time for your journey as delays may be expected.”
