Donegal Gardaí have issued a warning about illegal fireworks ahead of the Halloween celebrations.

“Igniting an illegal firework, throwing an ignited firework at a person or property and possessing illegal fireworks with intent to sell or supply are all offences,” a garda spokesperson said.

“Did you know what sort of penalties might be imposed were you to be found guilty of any of these offences?  Do not take the risk this Halloween. Don’t risk your own safety, the safety of others and don’t risk getting a criminal record.”

Fines of up to €10,000 and five years imprisonment are applicable to those found guilty of lighting, throwing or being in possession of fireworks.

Anyone with information about the sale or supply of illegal fireworks should contact their local Gardaí on the following numbers:

Letterkenny Garda Station 074-9167100

Buncrana Garda Station 074-9320540

Milford Garda Station 074-9153060

Ballyshannon Garda Station 071-9858530.

Alternatively, you can contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800666111.
