Two drivers have been arrested during a roads clampdown in Letterkenny.

Gardaí from Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit were on patrol yesterday evening in Letterkenny town when they detected a car that had not been taxed in the last 4 years.

It was suspected that the driver was not insured. The car was seized. The roadside oral fluid preliminary drug test indicated the presence of cannabis and the driver was arrested.

A second driver was arrested by Gardaí from Letterkenny RPU in the early hours of yesterday morning in Letterkenny town as they also failed the roadside oral fluid preliminary drug test, testing positive for cannabis.

Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit were again out on patrol yesterday when they came across a learner driver who was unaccompanied.

The driver had no insurance, no tax, no NCT and no L plates. The car was seized and the driver will now face a Court appearance.

Too many lives are lost on the roads because of poor decisions when it comes to road safety and too many families are left devastated. We all have a part to play in making our roads safer. Please play your part and help save lives.
