An uncle has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his two nieces when he appeared at court.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victims, appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court.
Wearing a suit and tie, the middle-aged man was charged with two cases of sexual assault Contrary to Section Two of the Criminal Law Act.
On the first offence he is charged that on a date unknown between 17th February, 1992 and 30th September, 1992, he sexually assaulted his niece by touching her genitals while she was sitting on his knee.
He was also charged that on a date unknown between, April 29th, 1997 and April 28th, 1998 he sexually assaulted another niece by touching her buttocks under her pyjama bottoms while she was sitting on his knee.
The man only spoke to answer ‘guilty’ to both charges.
Barrister for the accused, Mr Colm Smyth said the man had no previous convictions.
He asked that his client be remanded on continuing bail and asked for a probation report on his client.
Counsel for the State, Ms Fiona Crawford, asked for a victim impact in the case.
Judge John Aylmer agreed to all requests and adjourned the case for sentencing until the next sitting of the circuit court in January, 20024.
