Cllr Gerry McMonagle, Sandra Haughey and Maria Doherty have been selected as Sinn Féin candidates in next year’s local elections.
Cllr McMonagle and Sandra Haughey were chosen for the Letterkenny electoral area following a convention in Dillons Hotel.
Maria Doherty was nominated by the Carrigart cumann contest in the Milford area election.

Padraig Mac Lochainn TD, who attended both conventions, said that a strong Sinn Féin team in Donegal County Council would start the process of “people first” in Donegal.
“2024 will be a big year with Local, European and maybe a Dáil election too,” he said.
“Sinn Féin are determined to stand a strong team of candidates in all of these elections to deliver the positive change that our people need.”

The Party Spokesperson on Fisheries and the Marine, speaking in Letterkenny, praised the long standing hard work of Cllr McMonagle and his commitment to the people of Letterkenny, while highlighting the trojan work done by Sandra Haughey in her community.
In his acceptance speech, Cllr McMonagle said: “I am very proud and incredibly honoured to be selected by Sinn Féin once again to be their standard bearer in Letterkenny.
“I have worked tirelessly these last twenty years for the people of Letterkenny and I am extremely proud of this community and what it has achieved.
“My main aim will be to continue to build on the success of the past. We will need strong public representatives who will represent the growing needs of Letterkenny. I firmly believe with the experience and can do attitude I possess I can deliver on those needs.
“We must address our Housing, Health and infrastructure deficits. Issues that I have been campaigning on since being elected.
“I make one promise here tonight and that is to continue to work on behalf of the people of Letterkenny and to bring your concerns to the table where they need to be heard, be that at National or Local level.”
Accepting her nomination, Sandra Haughey said she was honoured and that it was a privilege to have been nominated by her local Cumann, Gallagher/Mc Fadden/Ashe.
She said that she was looking forward to continuing her work within the community and bringing the concerns and issues of the people of the area to the forefront of the political narrative in the Council.
She added: “If elected, I will look forward to working with our local and national Sinn Féin teams in representing the interests of the people in the Letterkenny area and especially those workers and families left behind by Government policies “
