Top-up funding has been announced for Tidy Towns groups in Donegal today, with 42 groups to benefit.

Funding packages of €1,000 and €4,000 will go to groups to help them prepare for the 2024 SuperValu TidyTowns competition.

Letterkenny, which was in second place in the county this year, is eligible for the highest allocation of €4,000.

Buncrana and Ballybofey/Stranorlar Tidy Towns will be allocated €3,000 each.

The Buncrana Tidy Towns Initiative were the big winners at the SuperValu Tidy Towns Awards this year.  Buncrana not only won the county title by a point, but they were also the regional winners of the large town Local Authority Pollinator Award, winning €1,000. Buncrana scored 369 from the Tidy Towns judges.

Letterkenny Tidy Towns won a Gold Medal again this year and came 2nd place (highly commended) in Donegal. Letterkenny’s overall score has grown by 13 points to 368.

County third went to Carraig Airt. Bronze medals went to Malin, Glenties, Raphoe, Moville and Carraig Airt.

This year marked the 65th anniversary of the SuperValu TidyTowns competition, which continues to go from strength to strength, with over 880 towns and villages entering the competition in 2023.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys T.D., has urged eligible groups to ensure they avail of the  €1.5 million funding pot.

All eligible groups will be contacted before Christmas to confirm their funding. All projects and initiatives funded under this support must be completed by July 31st, 2024.
