Two winners from Donegal will be presented with their overall national Garda Youth Awards in a ceremony taking place next week.
Mulroy College in Milford has won in the Special Recognition category, after the school community was rocked by the Creeslough tragedy. Two students from the school, James Monaghan and Leona Harper, were killed in the explosion, with many members of the school community deeply affected by the tragedy. The support and resolve the school community offered eachother, with maturity and care far beyond the years of many of the students, has been recognised by An Garda Siochana by this shared award.

Adam Lough also won a national award in the Individual category, for his work in helping to set up an U14 boys, U16 boys and a Junior and Senior girl’s rugby club at his school, St Columba’s Comprehensive Glenties. He recognised a need for another sporting avenue for students who didn’t enjoy games like soccer at the school. Adam is a trained Junior coach and referee. The necessary training he undertook entirely in his own time was to assist with the management and coaching within the club. Every training session within the rugby club is coached single-handedly by Adam.
