The Donegal Mountain Rescue Team has thanked Lee Haughey for his efforts, after over €45,000 was raised in honour of his father, Liam “Gutcha” Haughey.

Liam passed away earlier this year, and his son Lee organised a charity climb of Mount Errigal and a GoFundMe, to raise money for the DMRT, as well as Sheephaven SAC.

Both DMRT and Sheephaven SAC received cheques for over €22,500 following the amazing donation drive.

In a post on social media, the DMRT said that they were “absolutely blown away” by the money given to them as part of the fundraising efforts.

They continued, saying that: “Never did we ever think such a donation would be made. We cannot begin to express our gratitude for this incredible contribution to the team, but can only say a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Lee and everyone who donated.”

“This money is absolutely invaluable to the continuation of the team and will allow the team to continue to do what we do to the highest standards.”
