Motion to make 100% redress official party policy of Sinn Féin

The Sinn Féin Ard Fheis next week will hear a motion directing the party to deliver 100% Redress if in government after the next election.

The campaign is being led by the party’s Buncrana based cumann in advance of the ard fheis on 10th-11th November in Athlone.

Inishowen Sinn Féin Councillor, Jack Murray said the motion will guarantee that Sinn Féin will be the party to deliver 100% Redress for all of the victims of the defective concrete products and defective apartments, duplexes and houses scandals.

Cllr Murray said; “As a democratic party, entirely directed by our membership, Sinn Féin’s Ard Fheis is the most important event on our annual calendar, as it guides party policy and objectives. The resolutions voted upon at this national event will direct the actions of our party leadership going forward.

“To this end, the local Sinn Féin cumann in Buncrana felt it important to submit a motion that would make it official party policy, and a strategic objective, to deliver 100% redress for those living with defective homes.

“Should this be endorsed by our party membership – and I am confident that it will – then it will mean that there will be absolutely no doubt of a real 100% Redress scheme being introduced by a Sinn Féin led government.

“After more than a decade of false dawns – and schemes which are inaccessible to most families – people need hope. They need guarantees that the nightmare of living with a crumbling home will come to an end.

“Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD, as our party whip, has constantly raised the plight of Donegal people who are living in defective block homes, to the floor of the Dáil – and has highlighted the failings of the current scheme. In doing so, he has received support from Sinn Féin representatives across Ireland.

“As such, I truly believe that a government led by Mary Lou McDonald, and with Eoin O’Broin as Minister for Housing, will introduce a full, proper, 100% redress scheme that is accessible for all.

“The passing of this motion will be a resounding message from our party as to our commitment, if in government.”
