A photographic exhibition, titled THALL UDAÍ/OVER BY, will be launched at Seanscoil Bhun an Inbhir, Gaoth Dobhair this Saturday,November 11th at 7.30 pm.

It comprises of a selection of images and a recording from Cartlann Ghlaschú–Gaoth Dobhair/The Glasgow–Gaoth Dobhair Archive, a project developed by artist Christina McBride during a recent residency at Ollscoil na Gaillimhe/University of Galway’s centre in Gaoth Dobhair in autumn 2022.

“The THALL UDAÍ/OVER BY exhibition focuses on the Glasgow/Donegal diaspora. Visualising and validating the shared histories and experiences of this community and captures narratives that might otherwise be lost.

“Hopefully, images and recordings collected in Ireland and Scotland for the archive will constitute a valuable resource for future generations,” said Christina.

Both of Christina’s parents were from Co. Donegal and every summer she and her family left the narrow confines of the Glasgow tenements to visit her maternal grandparents in the expansive coastal landscape of Bun an Inbhir.

Travelling back and forth across the North Channel, she contemplates people and landscapes in rural Donegal.

Christina’s residency at the Ollscoil an Gaillimhe/University of Galway’s Acadamh centre in Gaoth Dobhair was made possible by the university’s close collaboration with Údarás na Gaeltachta and Ealaín na Gaeltachta.

It benefited greatly too from the support of colleagues in the Glasgow School of Art, the University of Strathclyde, Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, An Chrannóg and An Gailearaí, Gaoth Dobhair.
