Concerns over the traffic flow at the Polestar roundabout will be brought before Donegal County Council again next week.
Letterkenny-Milford councillors are planning to discuss issues raised by drivers and local businesses following the switching on of the new lights system last month.
Work has been taking place this week to improve the phasing of the lights at the busy roundabout.
However, confusion continues to surround the new layout, while traffic problems have been reported across the town at peak times.
An upcoming meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District will hear two motions from local representatives.
Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh has tabled a discussion on the concerns of motorists and businesses regarding the roundabout.
Cllr Donal Coyle is requesting that Donegal County Council erect clear written signage on the approach roads to the Polestar Roundabout showing the lanes that vehicles should enter to negotiate the roundabout.
Cllr Ciaran Brogan has also submitted a query to the council for traffic counts on all roads leading into Letterkenny. The information is expected to be provided during the November meeting of the MD this coming Tuesday.
Donegal County Council has stated that traffic congestion in Letterkenny and on those particularly busy roads converging at the Polestar Roundabout at peak times “cannot be resolved by traffic signalisation alone”.
A spokesperson said: “While it will help provide assurance, reliability and greater safety for all road users, only significant new infrastructure such as the Ten-T Project and others can hope to resolve the peak time congestion issues within the town.”
