A second series of the hit documentary show Bearman of Buncrana is in the works.
The announcement was made by Killian McLaughlin earlier this week.
The first series, which aired in 2020, documented Killian and Wild Ireland’s work in setting up a sanctuary for brown bears, wolves, wild boar and other majestic animals which used to roam the County Donegal landscape in centuries gone by.
Now a second season is in the pipeline, following a potentially even more ambitious animal rescue project.
As he revealed on RTÉ’s Today show this week, Killian and his team are working to rescue two bears from the Dagestan area of Russia, and bring them back to Donegal.
The programme will show the lengths his team has had to go to, due to events such as the War in Ukraine, to gain access to Russia to then transport the animals all the way across Europe.
Killian says that paperwork is still being processed, with many barriers of red tape to go through to even be able to access the animals.
If he’s successful in his attempts to bring them out of the harsh conditions they’re currently being held in, he says that the show is expected to broadcast next year on RTÉ.
