Donegal drivers warned to slow down due to deer on main road

Drivers are being asked to slow down and be on alert for deer on the roads during dark nights.

As deer rutting season continues, there is an increased risk of deer crossing suddenly in front of cars.

Motorists are being asked to take particular care on the N56 between Creeslough and Ards, where deer crossings are a regular occurrence.

Creeslough Parish Priest Fr John Joe Duffy last night avoided two deer running in front of his car.

“It is difficult to see the deer crossing in these dark roads in wet and blustery conditions,” he said.

In addition to reminding drivers to be vigilant, Fr Duffy also advised people to keep in mind the possibility of other cars braking suddenly in front of them to avoid deer.
