Danny Gallagher, a 63-year-old resident of St. Johnston, has successfully raised an impressive €5,400 in support of Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital.
The remarkable feat was accomplished through a 130km walk along the Camino Santiago in Spain, spanning six days and fuelled by the generous contributions of friends, neighbours, and fellow Irish supporters.
The local pub, Maggies Tavern, played a pivotal role in organising a fundraising fun day, featuring a charity walk, engaging games, a lively disco for children, and culminating in music and an auction. The collaborative effort showcased the strength of the local community rallying behind a noble cause.

Beaumont Hospital, located 5km north of Dublin City centre, is a prominent academic teaching hospital providing essential emergency and acute care services across 54 medical specialties to a community of approximately 290,000 individuals. Additionally, the hospital serves as a Designated Cancer Centre, Regional Treatment Centre for Ear, Nose and Throat, and Gastroenterology, and the National Referral Centre for Neurosurgery and Neurology, Renal Transplantation, and Cochlear Implantation.
Upon reaching the picturesque cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, the culmination of his inspiring journey, Danny Gallagher expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “This walk would not have been possible without the ongoing support of my friends and the community of St. Johnston, who, along with some fantastic walking companions I met along the way, spurred me on. I am delighted we have raised such a huge sum for Beaumont Hospital and know it will be put to good use.”
