Mia Nic Dáibhéid from Annagry has won a prestigious ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2023’ award at the GRADAIM Irish Business Awards.

The awards this year were presented in Croke Park today by television presenter, Mary Kennedy.

Mia triumphed in category 2 (age group 18-21) in the ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ competition, a highlight of GRADAIM 2023.

Mia started her own business selling ice cream at her family’s shop, McDevitts. She opened ‘Siopa Uachtar Reoite Mhic Dhaibhéid’ in 2021. Mia saw an opportunity to establish a business and seized it. The shop has grown significantly due to the hard work of its ten employees and savvy use of social media.

Their first online video in Irish was viewed by 300,000 people. The shop offers delicious ice cream, milkshakes, chocolate brownies, waffles, and other sweet treats.

Judges noted the remarkable growth and development of Mia’s business over the past two years and commended her dedication to her venture.

The GRADAIM Irish Business Awards acknowledge the exceptional entrepreneurial skills demonstrated by young individuals who demonstrate a talent for business through the Irish language. Winners exemplify entrepreneurial spirit, imaginative approach, a positive image towards the Irish language, and display a dedication to providing customer service through Irish. “Fíricí Fánacha,” a group of four young men from Chorca Dhuibhne, also won in category 1 (age group 12-18).
