Donegal’s longest-running tattoo business is to close its doors.

The Xtreme Tattoo Studio on Letterkenny’s Port Road will close its doors at Christmas after 23 years ‘inking’ many Donegal people.

Owner Wez Hughes made the announcement on social media – something he never thought he would have to do.

He said “I never thought I would be writing this post. Over the last few years business has been physically, mentally and financially draining for a few reasons but mainly due to the cost of living crisis that is going on at the moment.

“So after a lot and I mean a lot of thought and looking at different ways not to be doing this I have made the decision with a heavy heart to close the studio.

“I have been in the tattoo industry half my life now and being one of the first to bring the industry to Donegal this decision hasn’t come easy.”

Wez, who is originally from Scotland, said he had so many people to thank for their support along the way.

He added “I would like to thank those who have remained loyal and supported me and the studio over the last 23 years .

“It’s time for a new chapter. I will be in the studio for the next 6 weeks til Sat 23rd Dec 2023, if anyone has any work needing finished please get in touch.

“Anyone with gift vouchers if you could call in to book an appointment or get a refund on your voucher before this date. (Vouchers WILL ONLY be refunded or booked if a valid voucher card is present).

“I will put a list of artists I would personally recommend before I leave. Thank you all again.”
