Donegal farmer’s unique ‘dig your dinner’ event to feature on RTE this week

Ear To The Ground on RTE One will celebrate the unique idea of Ballyholey farmer John Graham this week.

As the number of vegetable farmers in the country continues to decline, some are coming up with innovative ways to both make their farms viable, and encourage people to actively participate in keeping them going.

During the summer John Graham at Ballyholey Farm Shop in East Donegal came up with an idea to get people to pay to come to his farm to pick their own veg.

The ‘Dig your Dinner’ day grew into an annual event, becoming a highlight of the Ballyholey Farm calendar.

John invites foodies and families alike to enjoy a few hours in the outdoors, where they literally dig their dinner of potatoes and a selection of vegetables and put it into a crate to take home.

During the summer Darragh Mc Cullough went to Donegal to meet John and all his guests as they got their hands dirty digging up some top quality produce.

Don’t miss the feature on this week’s Ear To The Ground, Thursday 30th November, RTÉ One – 7pm.
