Icy conditions are expected to last for the rest of the week in Donegal, as Met Eireann warns of a weekend freeze.
There is a risk of hazardous driving conditions throughout the weekend as temperatures plummet over the next two nights.
A status yellow weather warning is in place from 5pm today, Friday until 12noon on Sunday.
Frost and ice are likely in many areas, while some showers will fall as hail or sleet in northern counties.
A second weather alert for fog has been issued until Sunday.
Forecasters warn of dense fog forming in many areas, lingering through the day in some places. “Patches of freezing fog too,” the alert said.
We can expect lows of -4C in Donegal overnight, followed by a cold Saturday with highest temperatures of just 2 to 6 degrees.
The outlook is “very cold with frost, ice and some wintry precipitation. Less cold by next week.”
