Ardara singer/songwriter Tanya McCole has proudly shared the stage with many of Ireland’s leading artists.

But to sing ‘Fairytale of New York’ alongside Shane MacGowan was a dream come true.

Tanya was blessed to share the stage with MacGowan in 2013, while touring with Sharon Shannon.

Following the sad passing of Shane yesterday, at the age of 65, Tanya shared her precious memories of singing and dancing with the Irish icon.

Watch a clip from the Gleneagle INEC Arena here:

Video taken by Heather McKeeman.

In a heartfelt tribute to Shane, Tanya wrote: “It’s not every day you get asked to sing your favourite Christmas song with the man himself but that’s what happened when Sharon Shannon asked me to sing with him on her 2013 tour of Ireland.

“It was a dream come true to share the stage so many times with a master wordsmith like Shane.

“He was nothing but a gentleman and I’m blessed I got to sing with him.

“My sincere condolences to Victoria Mary Clarke and all their family and friends.

“May you rest easy now Shane and may we continue to sing your songs for many years to come.”

Clannad star Moya Brennan joined the tributes yesterday. Sharing special photos of herself with the star, she said: “Sadness in my heart with the news of my dear friend, Shane. I was lucky and blessed to have had the opportunity to sing with him, and to call him a friend. All my love goes to Victoria and the rest of his family and friends.”

Daniel O’Donnell shared his sympathies and said: “He gave so much enjoyment to so many with his great talent.

“My deepest sympathy to his wife Victoria Mary and all his family.

“Rest in Peace Shane.”
