The popular Christmas Carols in the Park event is returning to Carndonagh for the second year.
The event will see plenty for families to do, including getting involved in some caroling as well as a showcase of local creative talents!
It’s getting underway from 3:30pm next Sunday afternoon, the 10th of December – with some free festive treats and warm drinks for hearty winter souls also.
The Barrack Hill Town Park Steering Committee, who are helping to organise the event, say that the event is a collaborative effort with community groups including children from first and second level schools, locals and Ukrainian adults, who have all worked with the committee to create a diverse range of projects.
The projects will showcase local cultural and creative resources including creative arts and educational projects including the reuse of upcycled fabric decorations, repurposing of old Christmas decorations, reuse of wood for arts and crafts, baking and decorating and wreath making. The committee say the aim is to “create a lifelong learning in sustainability and to form a new habit and understanding of the importance of upcycling from childhood years”.
“Our plan is to build on our inclusive Christmas gathering from last year, where children and adults of all backgrounds and abilities will collaborate and share their creative projects and demonstrate their educational learning through music and art” said Carmel Doherty, Chairperson of the Barrack Hill Town Park Steering Committee.
“We are also very proud to have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag award again this year so we will also celebrate that” added Carmel.
“Events like this are fantastic for the community” commented Sean Curran, events organiser in the park. “We are delighted to announce that the Carndonagh Brass Band, the choir from the Sacred Heart Church, Siobhán Shiels Music School along with girls and boys from the local national schools will all be coming to the park.”
“We really hope all the boys and girls from the other schools and all generations and backgrounds in the community will come along and join in the carol singing and celebrate Christmas together. Mrs Claus has also promised to drop by for some storytelling time!”
