A special Christmas lights switch-on in Raphoe as Patrick and Michael remember mum Eileen

There was something magical in the air in Raphoe on Saturday evening last when the traditional switching on of the Christmas lights took place.

As well as looking forward to the festive season, many remembered those who will not be with us this Christmas.

Among them was Patrick and Michael Mc Elhinney who performed the official switching on of the lights in memory of their beloved mum Eileen.

The event started with Christy Murray and his tin whistle team, followed by the Finn Valley Mens Choir, and then just before the countdown at 6pm, Eurovision star Jessica Mc Kean showed why she is so talented.

After the switch on, Santa Claus was led around the Diamond by the Raphoe Pipe Band, before he stopped off in his grotto in the Suile Centre for a picture opportunity, treats, refreshments and more entertainment.

A brilliant evening was had by all.
