Concern after elderly woman attacked in burglary in Convoy

Gardai are hunting an intruder after an elderly woman was knocked unconscious during a burglary at her home in Co Donegal.

The woman, who lives alone, was set upon after she heard noises outside her home in the village of Convoy.

When she went to investigate, and heard more sounds coming from her shed.

She opened the door of her shed and was confronted by a man who hit her and knocked her unconscious.

The woman woke up and was lying on the street outside her home.

Neighbours came to her aid following the terrifying incident which happened around 6.30pm on Wednesday evening last.

Neighbours of the woman said she has been left very shaken up by her ordeal.

Thankfully she only received cuts and bruises but she has been left in a state of fear.

Neighbours have now been calling in on the woman and have appealed to other locals to call in on other elderly people in the locality.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed a woman was injured in an aggravated burglary and that they continue to investigate the incident.

A spokesperson said “Gardaí received report of an aggravated burglary that is reported to have occurred on Wednesday, 29th November 2023.

“The female occupant of the property was injured during the course of the incident. Investigations are ongoing into this matter.”
