An Inishowen Councillor says he clocked an e-Scooter rider travelling in the dark without lights at almost 40kph last week.
Cllr Nicholas Crossan described the incident in Buncrana at a recent meeting of the Donegal Joint Policing Committee (JPC) in Lifford.
He said he was driving along the town’s Shore Road when he ‘happened to notice’ a man riding an electric scooter.
“I just happened to notice a pair of white runners, otherwise the rider was wearing black, had no lights on and was not wearing a helmet. I checked my speedometer and he was doing nearly 40kph. There has to be a crackdown on this type of behaviour,” Cllr Crossan said.
In response, Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken said a presentation on e-Scooters was given at the last JPC meeting. He added that ‘impending legislation’ was being drafted which included a maximum speed limit of 25kph.
