A photograph of a Donegal man purported to be with the legendary Shane McGowan on a London building site has generated huge debate in recent days.

The image features the late Dinny Maguire from Glencolmcille alongside a man who strikes a strong resemblance to the icon Pogues frontman who passed away last week.

According to Radio Kerry’s X (née Twitter) account, the man on the right is McGowan and the picture was taken while both men worked on the Brent Cross Shopping Centre in London for the legendary J Murphy & Sons Construction around 1979.

However, according to many commentators, McGowan never worked on that job and there’s no mention of it in his biography. Also, it has been pointed out the shopping centre was opened in 1976 and, if it was taken that year, McGowan would’ve been just 19, much younger than the man in the picture.

The photo has generated huge debate online and has gone viral. While the discussion continues, one issue can be confirmed – the man on the left is Dinny Maguire from Glen!
