Music legend Shane MacGowan’s remains will will travel through the streets of Dublin today before his funeral in Nenagh in Co Tipperary this afternoon.
The Phogues singer died last week at the age of 65 after a long battle with illness.
Fans of the singer will have an opportunity to pay their respects when the remains of Mr MacGowan are driven through Dublin’s southside before heading to Tipperary.
His funeral will take play at St Mary of the Rosary church in Nenagh at 3.30pm, where Mr MacGowan used to attend mass in town.
The funeral procession in Dublin will begin at 11am and will travel by horse-drawn carriage from South Lotts Road, down Pearse Street and onto Westland Row.
Gardaí said traffic restrictions are in place for both events – and roads in the centre of Nenagh will be closed until 7pm this evening.
President Michael D Higgins, along with family, friends and colleagues of the singer, will attend the funeral mass.
Mr MacGowan spent his early childhood around the Carney Commons and Silvermines areas around Nenagh which were frequently credited with fostering his love of Irish music and storytelling and for influencing his songwriting career.
