There has been outrage and shock in Buncrana, after the town’s Christmas tree was vandalised overnight.

The Buncrana Christmas Lights organisers say that the lights could not be switched on today as a result of the damage caused.

They have demanded that the “idiot” vandals, who were caught on CCTV, pay the €800 in damages caused to the tree after the attack.

On social media, the organisers of the lights said that “we’ve got an appointment at the Garda station tonight, with clear footage of the four idiots who caused over €800 damage to the Christmas tree.”

They warned the vandals that “you have until 5pm this evening to pay up, or this footage goes public and goes to the Gardaí”.

UPDATE:

All’s well that ends well – after being caught on camera, the vandals offered to pay for repairs to the tree.

You can read all about a surprising twist in this tale here.
