Here are all of the results from this week’s Inishowen League fixtures.
Jackie Crossan Premier Division
Aileach FC 1 v Cockhill Celtic 5
Reversed to the Charlie O Donnell sportsground Aileach threatened early when Caoimhin McFeely advanced on the left but was denied by the advancing Harry Doherty. Cockhill got on top and deservedly took the lead on 8 minutes when Adam McLaughlin kept the ball in on the left and crossed for Luke Rudden to expertly volley past Dylan Porter from just inside the box.They doubled their lead on 13mins when Jack Mullan intercepted a pass in the left of midfield before firing low across Porter to the far corner.It wasn’t all plain sailing and Aileach halved the deficit on 18 minutes after Gavin Doherty emphatically converted a penalty awarded after Harry Doherty was adjudged to have committed a foul inside the box.The remainder of the first half was dominated by Cockhill. They went close to extending their lead when Lee McColgan’s 30yd strike rattled the crossbar before Corey McBride and Garbhan Friel went close with headers, both narrowly missing the target. The second half started in a similar vein with Cockhill on top. On 50 minutes McLaughlin’s shot after pinball in the Aileach box was cleared off the line by McElroy. Two quickfire goals on 64 and 66 minutes settled the game. Jack Mullan pounced an overhead finish from just inside the box after great work down the right from Friel before Cockhill’s number nine got his goal, steering home McColgan’s left wing cross. They were denied from adding to their tally by a brilliant double save from Porter who parried McBride’s shot before reacting quickly to thwart Rudden’s follow up.The relief was short lived however and Lee McColgan completed the scoring by heading home an Adam McLaughlin free kick from close range.
Illies Celtic 1 v Carn FC 1
This was a close hard fought affair with chances at a premium in the opening half. The first opportunity came for the home side midway through the half after Michael Owen Doherty found Liam Doherty whose effort was well saved by Daniel McDaid. They had another half chance on the stroke of half time after a looping Paul Doherty cross just eluded Paddy Curran at the back post. Illies began the second half well and broke the deadlock on 50 minutes after a Liam Doherty cross was not cleared by the Carn defence allowing Curran to slot home from twelve yards. Curran then set up another chance after he cut in from the right and squared for Paul Doherty but he fired over the bar. Carn responded well and equalised when Ross Farrens cross was only partially cleared to the edge of the area where Kalvin Mclaughlin drilled low to the bottom corner from twenty yards. Illies came closest to snatching a winner but substitute Shaun McCallion fired straight at keeper McDaid as both sides had to settle for a point.
Clonmany Shamrocks 0 v Buncrana Hearts 1
Buncrana started this game well but it was Clonmany who had the first chance after a corner was recycled back to Matthew Brennan and his cross was headed over by Gareth Bradley. Buncrana replied and midway through the half an Adam Curran cross was met with a diving header from Matthew Brown which flashed just past the post. They took the lead in the 27th minute after Kieran McDaid’s cross dropped over Liam McGonigle and Brown was on hand to force the ball home from six yards. The visitors continued to carry more of a threat and Jamie McDaid headed a Conor Doherty cross over the bar before McGonigle tipped a Kieran McDaid free around the post. Clonmany began the second half well and on 52 minutes Brennans left wing cross in behind the Hearts defence found Jason Devlin cutting in from the right but he fired past the post as Taylor Clarke advanced. The game deteriorated after this with Clonmany unable to hold the ball up in attacking areas and Kieran McDaid a pivotal player for the visitors with his ability to relive pressure and force Clonmany on the back foot.
Glengad United 0 v Greencastle FC 2
The first half was a tame affair with a lot of the play in midfield and both defences on top with neither goal keeper overly troubled throughout. Greencastle had the first attempt on 22 minutes when a Nigel McMonagle effort was well saved low to his left by Zach Conlon. Glengad had the best chance of the half after ba Christy Mclaughlin free was headed across by Seamus Doherty for brother Joe but he headed over the bar from close range. Glengad had the first chance of the second half after good link up between McLaughlin and Terence Doherty saw the latter fail to hit the target from twelve yards. The visitors then broke the deadlock before the hour mark after a Nathan Harkin free found McMonagle whose effort took a big deflection off a defender on its way to the net. Glengad pressed after this with Seamus Dohertys ball over the top finding Matthew Mooney who blazed over from close range. Both Terence Doherty and Mclaughlin then had shots off target as the home side pressed. But Greencastle sealed the points on 83 minutes after a Michael Henry cross picked out Michale Barr to head home at the back post.
Strand Hotel First Division
Carn Res 1v Culdaff FC 0
The home side put a huge dent in the visitors title aspirations with a narrow win in St Patrick’s Park on Sunday morning. In very wet conditions at St Patrick’s Park it was a tightly contested opening 20 minutes. The first half chance fell to Dayton Cooke but his effort went left and wide of Patrick McLaughlin’s post. Carn keeper Dermot Doherty was called into action soon after as he tipped over a powerful strike from Keith Norris from twenty yards out. Again Culdaff pressed and Jack O’Brien saw is effort well blocked by Carn defender Ciaran O’Kane. Just minutes before half-time it was Carn who took the lead. A Christy Doherty strike from 25 yards out looked destined for the the top corner but McLaughlin produced a fine save to keep it out. However the rebound fell kindly to Carn forward Dayton Cooke who from five yards out slotted the ball low past the helpless McLaughin. The second half started much like the first. Both sides cancelled each other out well but attacking changes from Culdaff opened up the game. Firstly Jack O’Brien for Culdaff saw his low effort saved. Moments later Christy McDaid raced through for Carn but his effort was well saved by McLaughlin. Culdaff were then awarded an indirect free kick which was expertly saved by Doherty in the Carn goal to hold onto Carn’s lead. Dayton Cooke had two opportunities to finish the game as a contest but fired both efforts wide when well placed. Culdaff had a golden opportunity to salvage a point on 82 minutes. A whipped cross from the right was met by Aidan Cunningham who steered his side footed strike over the bar from the six yard box. Carns defence held on firmly for the win in an even contest.
Dunree United 2 v QPS 0
Dunree had the first chance of the game after Jamie Brosnan pounced on a poor back pass but Conor O Neill was off his line smartly to block his effort. Midway through the half they took the lead after Brosnan converted a penalty awarded after Cian Moran had been upended. The visitors responded well and Oisin Burke went close with an effort which hit the side netting. They had another chance before the break after a Seamus McFadden cross saw John McCloskey’s effort deflected wide by a defender. The visitors were first to threaten in the second half and were unlucky when an Oisin Burke free kick crashed off the bar. Dunree hit back with Brosnan sending Kyle Barrett clear but he shot wide. Midway through the half the home side doubled their advantage after good play by Adam Barrett in midfield who found Brosnan and he fired a brilliant thirty yards effort to the top corner. The Point kept pressing in a bid to get back on terms but the home defence stood firm for a crucial win.
Inish Grass Division Two Shield
Moville Res 3 v Rashenny Rovers 2
Moville stormed into an early advantage with two goals in the opening ten minutes. In the opening minute a Luke McFadden cross found Colin Doherty who scored with a smart finish past Roger McGilloway. McGilloway then made a fine save to deny Doherty before Moville added a second . McFadden s effort was well parried by McGilloway but Doherty was on had to pounce and drill the loose ball home. Moville were well on top at this stage with Rowan Doherty seeing a shot tipped over before Colin Doherty spirned the chance of a hat trick when he dragged a penalty wide. Rashenny then got a foothold in the game and before the break they reduced the deficit when the home defence misjudged a long ball allowing Shay Grant to fire past Stephen Teles. The visitors then equalised five minutes after the break with Grant latching onto a long ball over the top and finishing well past Teles from inside the area. Moville upped the tempo and midway through the half Conor Radcliffe unleashed a thirty yards effort which crashed off the bar. Five minutes later a corner fell to Daniel McFadden whose well struck effort came off the post to Mateus Indyka but his goal bound effort was brilliantly saved by McGilloway. The home sides pressure eventually told in the 87th minute when they struck for the winner after Marcus Rule fed Luke McFadden who cut in from the left and smashed the ball home in off the post.
Culdaff Res 3 v Redcastle Res 2
Culdaff had an early chance when Sean McGrenaghan ran past two defenders but pulled his shot just wide of the Redcastle goal. Redcastle first chance, resulted in their first goal on the 20th minute with Keelan Henry converting a Gary Kelly cross. Culdaff nearly made it all square straight away when Sonny Bonner took a shot on from twenty five yards but the keeper Oisin Quigley saved well. Culdaff started the second half better. In the 54th minute they equalised after a wonderful lobbed pass from Conor McLaughlin found Darragh McCormick who fnished low to the bottom corner from the edge of the area. Gary Kelly’s rebounded shot off Douglas was then converted by substitute Oisin O’Kane to retore the visitors lead mid way through the half. Culdaff substitute Niall Gordon then perfectly placed his effort into the bottom right hand corner to make it two all with ten minutes remaining. Culdaff then struck for a late winner when substitute Niall McLaughlin fired to the roof of the net from just inside the area.
Rashenny RES 4 v Dunree Res 3
The home side had the majority of the possession in the opening half and took the lead in the 15th minute after Caylum Long broke clear on the left and his low cross was sidefooted home by Aidan Hirrell from eight yards. Dunree then had a couple of efforts with Bryce Fullerton firing narrowly wide before the same player had an effort well held by Sam Coyle. Rashenny responded and with a superb Aaron Cregan cross just eluding the inrushing players. Rashenny increased their lead on 32 minutes when Liam Grant fired through a crowded area after a corner fell to him. They went close again with an Eoin Fowley effort tipped over by Oran Doherty and from the resulting corner Cregan’s powerful effort was superbly cleared off the line by Daniel Downey. Downey then dragged Dunree back into the game when he pounced on a clearance from a corner and drove a low shot to the bottom corner from twenty five yards. Rashenny increased their lead in the opening minute of the second half after a Hirell corner found Kyle Doherty who despatched a looping header to the top corner. A superb diagonal ball from Cregan in the 58th minute picked out Long who cut in and fired low past Doherty to make it four one. Dunree rallied and a corner was cleared off the line by Chair Noone before Paul Jackson had a shot deflected over the bar. The visitors reduced the deficit in the 81st minute when Patrick Doherty unleashed a superb effort to the top corner from the edge of the area. They got another but it was a consolation goal in injury time when Dohertys cross found the unmarked Jackson to slot home.
Cockhill Res 0 v Sea Rovers 4
This match started at a frenetic pace with both sides going at each other, both playing some good football.Cockhill had the first clear cut chance with Ethan O’Toole playing the ball in to Niall Breslin who turned well in the box and his shot looked in all the way but Sea Rovers keeper Mark McLaughlin made a very good save low to his left.Sea Rovers replied and it took a top quality save from Cockhill keeper Lee McColgan to tip a long range effort from Declan McGonagle over the bar. The deadlock was broken on 15 minutes with Sea Rovers taking the lead when Liam Gallagher found the top corner from the edge of the area. Rovers then stormed into a three goal lead shortly after in a period of sustained pressure when Andrew Gallagher finished off a fine move after catching Cockhill in possession then Joey Holland headed home from a corner for the third. Cockhill stayed in the game competing well despite the scoreline and they were awarded a penalty just before the break but Mark McLaughlin saved well with his feet from Sean Bradleys effort from the spot. The second half was an even affair with both teams keeping respective keepers honest, both pulling off several good saves throughout the half. The only goal in the second half was a Conor McCloskey penalty late on as Sea Rovers run out worthy four nil winners.
Carrowmena FC 1 v QPS Youth 5
In wet conditions both defences were on top for the opening half an hour but the visitors had the first opportunity when a Thomas McConalogue snap shot from fifteen yards drew a stunning one handed save from Michael Noone in the home goal. The visitors took the lead then on 36 minutes after McConalogue intercepted a defensive pass and slipped the ball in to Marc Wallace to drill home from eight yards. Before the break they added a second goal when Josh Downey found McConalogue and he advanced into the area to shoot low past Noone from ten yards. The home side got a goal back within a minute of the resumption after Ronan Doherty fed Cathal Crumlish who crossed for Adam Harkin to drill low past Stephen Slattery from sixteen yards. But the visitors restored their cushion almost immediately after Downey slipped a pass into the path of Joseph McGonagle and he slotted low past Noone. QPS then sealed the points midway through the half with McConalogue and Downey combining to release Wallace who calmly sotted past substitute Mark Doherty. They completed the scoring when Downey s cross was sidefooted home from six yards by substitute Dean Hegarty.
