The wonderful Donegal Donkey Sanctuary will feature on our screens in this week’s Ear to the Ground.

With their doe eyes and shaggy coats, donkeys have always had a special place in the hearts of Irish people. However, the nostalgic grá we have for these animals has not translated into how we care for them. In recent years there has been a surge in unwanted donkeys.

On this week’s programme, Darragh McCullough spends a day at the Donegal Donkey Sanctuary where two of their recovered donkeys, Bertie and Eddie, will be leaving for their forever homes.

The programme will be screened on RTÉ One at 7pm next Thursday, December 21, and repeated on Sunday, Christmas Eve, at 1:06pm.
