One person dead and others injured after tragic night on Donegal roads

One person is dead and a number of people are being treated in hospital following a night of tragedy on the roads of Donegal.

Two separate crashes in Drumoghill and Gortahork led to a number of casualties being transferred to Letterkenny University Hospital.

A woman in her 90s was among those injured in a crash outside the West Donegal village of Gortahork.

Gardai confirmed that a number of people were injured in the two car collision.

A spokesperson said “Gardaí attended the scene of a two vehicle road traffic collision on the N56 in Gortahork, County Donegal this evening, Monday 18th December 2023.

“A number of people were taken to Letterkenny University Hospital following the collision. Investigations are ongoing.”

Gardai also confirmed they attended a serious car crash at Drumoghill, between Letterkenny and Lifford around 7pm.

Gardai said a section of the N14 Letterkenny to Lifford Road at Carrickballydoey will remain closed overnight as a result of a serious road traffic collision.

Motorists were asked to follow diversions.

Donegal Daily has learned that one person has tragically died as a result of the crash and at least one other person was transferred to Letterkenny University Hospital following the crash.
