Discussions will resume today on the terms of a financial package for Northern Ireland that will be dispersed if powersharing returns.
An opening offer of £2.5bn (€2.9bn) was presented last week by the British government but Stormont politicians demanded more.
RTÉ News is reporting that oficcials from the UK Treasury and the Northern Ireland Civil Service will discuss the financial package with representatives of the four parties that are entitled to form any new Stormont Executive.
The SDLP will go into opposition if devolution returns.
The discussions have been described as “technical talks” downplaying expectations that a deal might be imminent.
There was intense speculation last week that moves to restore the Stormont Executive could happen this week.
For this to happen, a sign off on the financial deal would be required and an announcement that the DUP had secured sufficient political concessions from the UK government to end its Stormont boycott.
