Gardai have launched an investigation after a young woman was hurt in a hit and run incident in Buncrana.

The young woman was struck by a car at Ardaravan Square on the Main Street between 4.30pm and 5pm yesterday.

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries but they are not life-threatening.

The driver of the car may have stopped at the scene for a short time but then left again.

The vehicle has been described as being a dark coloured saloon-type car.

A Garda spokesperson said “If anybody witnessed the incident we ask them to make contact with Gardaí. We believe that there were witnesses to this incident. The area was very busy at the time.

“If anybody travelled in that area who had a dash cam we ask them to make the footage available to us. Gardaí in Buncrana may be contacted on 074-9320540 in relation to this incident.”
