Strong winds are expected to strike the north west this week as the weather turns unsettled before Christmas.
A status yellow weather warning has been issued for Donegal this Thursday, while a similar alert is in place across Northern Ireland.
Strong and gusty west to northwest winds could have an impact on travel, forecasters said.
There is also a risk of wave overtopping on the coast and people will be warned to avoid exposed areas.
The warning is in place from midnight until 11.30pm on Thursday.
As far as a White Christmas is concerned, forecasters are not giving any definite predictions yet. Met Eireann’s outlook for Christmas week says: “At this stage, the weather is likely to become more unsettled with alternating periods of cold polar maritime air and mild sub-tropical air.
“Overall, mean air temperatures are forecast to be slightly above the December norm. Rainfall amounts are predicted to be above normal nationwide, with the highest rainfall totals expected across the western half of the country.”
