Gardaí issue appeal over false ‘suspicious’ van reports in Inishowen

Gardaí have stressed that pictures circulating of a ‘suspicious’ van in the Inishowen area are false and misleading.

They made the appeal after being made aware that a message is in circulation through various apps in relation to the van pictured above, a white Citroën Berlingo. The message falsely claims the van may have been involved in the recent spate of burglaries within the Inishowen area.

“We wish to advise that this van is most certainly not a vehicle of interest in relation to our investigation,” a garda spokesperson stressed.

“The driver of the van has been in the area recently conducting genuine meter readings. Should you receive a message in relation to this van we ask that it be deleted immediately and not shared. If in doubt when someone calls to your home to conduct a meter reading or to provide any type of service, please ask for ID.”
