Updated: 9.30am

Two separate power cuts have been reported in Donegal this Thursday morning following heavy winds overnight.

The outages mainly affect the Letterkenny, Twin Towns and Killygordon areas. The worst hit area is around the Stranorlar substation where 1,387 homes and businesses had been without power since 8:24 am. ESB Networks worked to restore power at 9.06am.

In the Cullion area of Letterkenny, 28 customers are affected. ESB Networks power to be restored in both areas by 9:45am.

A status yellow wind warning is in place for Donegal today until 8pm. People are being urged to take care due to possible debris on the roads, difficult driving and cycling conditions and the risk of wave overtopping at the coasts.

“Fallen electricity wires are live and dangerous – ever approach or touch them. Call our emergency service immediately on 1800 372 999 (+353 21 2382410), 999 or 112,” an ESB spokesperson said.
